SAFTU appointed Mr Ntozakhe Douglas Mthukwane on the 01 October 2019 to the position of the National Spokesperson, pending security and background check. The first check showed that there had been articles covering his rape trials. On further check, we discovered an alarming pattern of rape allegations:
He was charged for rape and pointing a firearm in 2016 – he is on bail and on trial
He was charged for rape in 2018 – he is on bail and on trial
He was charged for rape in 2019 – he is on bail and on trial
He was convicted of rape (attempted) in 1995
Our investigation also revealed that he was arrested and trialled for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl. The case was struck off the role pending further investigations. According to media reports, the alleged victim and her mother were allegedly intimidated with a firearm.
In our letter of appointment, we categorically stated that we were still doing background and criminal record check, and that should the result come back positive we reserve the right to retract the appointment.
We have now retracted the letter of appointment. Accordingly, we wish to inform the public that Mr Ntozakhe Douglas Mthukwane is no longer a spokesperson of SAFTU. All media queries should be directed to the General Secretary until further notice.
