Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000149 EndHTML:0000001622 StartFragment:0000000199 EndFragment:0000001588 Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000149 EndHTML:0000001622 StartFragment:000 The The South African Federation of Trade Unions welcomes the liquidation of African Global – formerly known as Bosasa – which has been at the heart of allegations of corruption at the Zondo commission into state capture.
It was forced into voluntary liquidation after no bank was willing to given them a trading account. The company African has admitted that “The extensive reputational damage in the past few months, occasioned by negative media reports, has resulted in financial institutions determination that the African Global Group poses a reputational risk for them as clients”.
SAFTU however insists that its 4500 or so employees must not have to pay with losing their jobs for their bosses’ corruption and the firm’ liquidation.
The Lindela Repatriation Centre and other Bosasa-run entities must be insourced by government and they must either employ its workers directly or insist that companies applying for tenders will employ the existing staff.
The federation also demands that African Global’s funds must be frozen before that are laundered out of the country. These funds must be seized and returned to the fiscus; and both those who gave bribes and those who received bribes must be prosecuted and punished.
