The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) wishes workers, students and all sections of the working class a happy easter. Further, we wish you safe travel to your respective destinations this easter; be it home to see family or to your respective religious denominations and congregations.
Easter holidays have forcefully earned a notorious reputation as the most deadly season on our roads for the working class migrant labourers.
This has been exacerbated by the collapse of passenger rail, and poor planning for the transport system by government. In the absence of alternative transport modes, the working class has been condemned to road transport, where most of our loved ones have met their untimely deaths.
Do not drink and drive. Remember, following this basic rule is not doing government favour, but preserving yourself for your family and those who benefit from your presence be it in politics, trade union movement or workplaces.
Passing on as a bread winner in the era of austerity, means you are leaving your children and those within your care in the hands of an uncaring government.
Drive safely. Happy Easter
