DONALD TRUMP’S RACIST ATTACK ON SOMALIA IS AN OUTRAGE WE REJECT WITH TOTAL CONTEMPT.

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) condemns, in the strongest possible terms, Donald Trump’s latest racist insult in which he referred to Somalia as “garbage.” This disgusting remark is not an accident, not a slip of the tongue. It is part of a long, well-documented pattern of white-supremacist contempt for African people, including his previous slur describing African nations as “shithole countries.”

Trump’s racism is not subtle. It is explicit. It is violent. And it is dangerous.

To call Somalia, a nation of proud people, rich culture, deep history, and extraordinary resilience, “garbage” reveals far more about Donald Trump’s moral decay than it ever could about Somalia or Africa. This is the same man who has built his entire political identity by attacking migrants, Muslims, Black people, and entire continents he does not understand and has never respected.

Let it be stated clearly: Somalia is not garbage. Donald Trump’s worldview is garbage.

Africa has survived colonialism, apartheid, coups engineered from abroad, and centuries of theft of our minerals, labour, and dignity. often by the very global powers that Trump glorifies. Somalia has endured foreign invasions, proxy wars, and famine exacerbated by imperial interference, yet its people continue to rebuild, resist, and rise. That resilience is something Donald Trump will never comprehend.

His racist remarks expose a mind steeped in ignorance, hatred, and white-supremacist nostalgia. Trump speaks about Africa with the arrogance of a man who thinks wealth makes him superior, yet whose own leadership brought the United States to international shame, democratic crisis, attempted insurrection, and moral collapse.

We refuse to allow a disgraced president, rejected by his own people for incompetence and corruption to insult an entire African Nation with impunity.

SAFTU stands firmly with the people of Somalia and all Africans who reject this colonial mindset. We also warn African leaders: Silence in the face of such racism is complicity. Not a single African country should accept being degraded by a man who has shown nothing but contempt for Black people everywhere.

If Donald Trump thinks he can drag Africa back into the era where Western leaders could spit on our nations with consequence, he must be corrected: Those days are gone. Africa will not be dehumanised.

His words shame only him. A man whose history, politics, and values belong in the dustbin, not in global leadership.

A statement was issued on behalf of the SAFTU General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi.
